"Die Geste des Wendens"

In her way of dealing with photography and its artistic dictate, Anja Manfredi, for several years, has been developping various body concepts and, though the artifice of staging her protagonists, she explores their formal interaction. Like the most important artists in the beginning phase of today’s classic modernism, she experiments with specific movements and gestures, which she also intends to compile in an “archive of movements”. Today, like then, photography was an adequate means of depicting selected moments of the moving body in poses and gestures. By cutting out the figures and taking them out of their actual pictorial and life context, Manfredi manages to define new levels of reality and relationship through collages.
