In January 2007, hurricane "Kyrill" destroyed large parts of Europe with wind speeds of up to over 200 km/h; more than 40 people lost their lives. Hans Kupelwieser documents the consequences of this hurricane in an impressive way. As a sculptor, he proves to be an excellent observer, conveying what he finds in a vivid and at the same time unpretentious manner.
The violent development of the low pressure area was favored, among other things, by the relatively warm waters of the North Atlantic. Over 93% of global warming affects the ocean. The last ten years are considered the warmest years for the oceans since measurements began. In early April 2023, sea surface temperatures reached an average of 21.1° Celsius; an alarming new record (read more – in German).
