Comment

Convincing example of the demands of scientific photography claimed by Berenice Abbott. She said about her work for an school book publisher: "I wanted to combine science and photography in a sensible, unemotional way. Some people’s ideas of scientific photography is just arty design, something pretty. That was not the idea. The idea was to interpret science sensibly, with good proportion, good balance and good lighting, so we could understand it." "You scientists are the worst photographers in the world and you need the best photographers in the world and I'm the one to do it."

"This print was originally used in the standard American high school physics text book, which went to at least nine edition. I bought the print from Abbott she told me that it was the one that was used for all of the reproductions, but I can't verify this." (Todd Watts)
