"Forest, Morning, Yosemite"

Jeff Nixon is regarded as a contemporary representative of classic American landscape photography. Through his connection to Ansel Adams and his intensive study of Adams’ Zone System and Yosemite, Nixon is considered a great guardian of Adams’ photographic tradition.
Nixon lived in Yosemite year-round from the 1970s through the 1990s. This atmospheric forest scene reveals Nixon’s deep connection to the magnificent natural landscape of Yosemite Valley. The photograph captivates with its soft lighting, which was likely enhanced by the use of a soft-focus filter. The rays of the low morning sun pierce through the canopy, casting long, graphic shadows onto the forest floor. A magical scene.
