After a rain shower, Kertész attempted to let the camera look directly into the light sources whereby these unusual halations are created. The “horizon” is deep and the drying puddles serve as mirror of the light sources and structure the ground in front of Notre-Dame, dimly appearing in the sallow night light. Three cyclists left traces of their bicycle lights in front of the main facade. Fritz Simak
