I was captivated by the steel blue winter night sky, the possibly pivotal fork in the road, and the snow-covered forked branches of this bare pair of trees led me to this picture. The two trees reminded me of the tori’i gates I had encountered on tours of Japan as a member of the Vienna Boys’ Choir: traditional entrances marking the transition from secular to sacred space.
