Comment
Roman Pfeffer’s work reflects a conceptual, linguistic, and process-oriented approach to the use of various media. The artist appropriates the world of everyday life and art, operating like a scientist, constructing something new without, however, conforming to rational laws.
Using his cultivated ornamental plants, Roman Pfeffer creates his own botany by cutting leaves from rubber trees and arrow aralias using scissors to shape them into oak and maple leaves, thereby creating hybrid plants. Roman Pfeffer’s manipulations are a balancing act, for if too many leaves are trimmed, the plant will not accept it and will shed them as if they were foreign bodies.
