"Himmel, 9. 8. 2012, 18:00 Uhr"
The inspiration for the panoramic images in the series "Skies", in which Zahornicky symbolically captures brief moments of various cloud formations against a blue-sky backdrop, was a poem by the Austrian writer Elfriede Gerstl, in which she described the sky as a place of romantic yearning.
(Hartwig Knack, translated by Peter Lillie)
My heaven is here and now. My heaven is my idea of heaven. It is kindness, reliability, and compassion in times of both joy and sorrow. My heaven is not filled with violins, but with solidarity. My heaven is also a utopia of a more just world, in which understanding and forbearance should be a daily reality. Heaven is the tightly woven network of like-minded and like-hearted people, and the joy of belonging to it. If there should be another heaven, I’ll let myself be surprised.
(Elfriede Gerstl, Mein Himmel (My Heaven), unpublished manuscript, 2003)
