The small round photo in the upper right corner shows Vivian Maier (1926–2009), an American photographer with Austrian-French roots. She worked as a nanny and photographed, among other things, everyday scenes in Chicago and New York. She was self-taught and had a particularly strong influence on street photography. The documentary Finding Vivian Maier by John Maloof offers insight into her life and art. Her work, her approach to life, and her way of working have inspired me ever since I first heard of her. The photo shown here (Self-Portrait, n.d.) is part of the SpallArt collection, another source of my inspiration.
The two images were created in 2022 in the collection’s depot as part of the exhibition Das 0bjekt im Fokus, as a tribute to a great artist whose work no one got to see during her lifetime.
