Comment
Successful example of a relatively early night shot. It is reminiscent of the well-known night pictures taken in the 1930s by the famous photographer Brassaï, who worked in Paris. He was one of the first to master the then difficult technique of photography at night.
Most likely, Lohr used the slight blur in his photography as a stylistic device. Thus, the trees appear blurry when backlit, rather like in one of the printing techniques of the pictorialists, who wanted to achieve a painterly effect with it.
