The pictures of the New York-based German artist Sonja Braas, who always creates extensive series, are an indication of how fragile our perception of the world is and how our daily experience of nature is shaped by stereotypes. In her series "The Quiet of Dissolution", for example, she has created topoi such as flood, tornado, firestorm, lava flow, and blizzard. The highlight of all of these works, however, is their realistic depiction: all of them are models that Braas constructed in her studio, often in months of work, for her depiction scenarios. In her most recent series, "the passage," she shows black and white, wide-open views of the sea and clouds. In the edition for untitled, she literally reveals a little of the mystery at the right and upper edge of the picture: you can see that everything has been modelled like on a stage.
