"In den Dünen von Alicante"
Spain
gelatin silver print
estate stamp authorized by Gundel Kilian on verso
Hannes Kilian worked as a freelance photographer for numerous renowned journals and magazines. But he was not just a chronicler and press photographer. Whether it was his impressive architectural or aesthetic fashion photographs, his eye for artistic composition and his special feel for light and shadow were always decisive. Kilian's travel reports from Italy, Spain, Egypt, Israel, Portugal and France are legendary. In the course of his career, Kilian developed an unmistakable visual language in his photographic work, which is characterized by a skilful use of light and shadow and an often unusual perspective.
(Johanna Breede PHOTOKUNST, Berlin)
This photograph was taken during a family vacation in Spain, as his daughter Daniela Kilian recalls.1 Hannes Kilian had his wife Gundel, wearing an old swimsuit and an elegant hat, walk up and down the dune several times. In this relaxed, informal setting, he took a photograph that can easily compete with the great images of fashion photography.
