The aestheticised pictures of the Mixed Martial Arts fights, that are limited only by a few rules and take place in abandoned brothels in Hamburg and other underground locations at the edge of illegality, hint at Rembrandt, Caravaggio and El Greco with art-historical references. Like famous Baroque painters, Giovanni Castell uses a dramatic-effective lighting in order to emphasize the compositional structures. A decisive moment is pulled out of the flow of time, the before and the after the pictured scene is left to the imagination of the spectator.
