"Hommage á David Hockney,
Belvedere, Staatsvertagssaal"
collage, 200 C-prints mounted on cardboard
signed, dated, titled and numbered (pencil) on mount verso
David Hockney lead the principle of the photo collage to its climax, with particular ease and simultaneously perfection. And he inspired Fritz Simak to this work.
Two Elements make this picture unique: as concave or convex structures cannot be displayed correctly two-dimensionally, blanks occur on the flat image. These have been filled with additional pictures in the floor as well as the cornice and the ceiling area which gives the impression of a coherent whole. Moreover, the position for the shot has been adjusted to the position from where the famous picture "Die Unterzeichnung des österreichischen Staatsvertrags im Oberen Belvedere 1955" by Robert Fuchs has been painted.
In addition, a section of the painting showing Leopold Figl signing with the Foreign Ministers of the Allies has been pasted to scale at the same location as in the painting. A reproduction of this painting is located on site as well as in the photo collage next to the women in the turquoise suit.
