This magazine page, signed and overdrawn by Joseph Beuys in gold-colored felt-tip pen, is an example of his artistic strategy of transforming everyday materials. Two chicken eggs - one with the Beuys stamp, the other with a hat drawing and red hearts - symbolize life, self-image and emotional depth. The gestural intervention transforms the mass medium into a work of art. This practice corresponds to Beuys' concept of “social sculpture”, in which he transformed everyday objects into works of art through simple gestural interventions such as drawings or signatures. The use of a gold-colored felt-tip pen for the signature reinforces the visual and symbolic effect of the work.
