"Wir waren allein und trugen die volle Verantwortung für alles was nicht passierte.“
We were alone and bore full responsibility for everything that did not happen.

from the poem "Sie saß wie eine Statue" by Corinna Focke (frau anders GZ_S_01_191)

Based on my East German biography and due to an invitation of the Berlinische Galerie and the cultural journalist Claudia Henne, in 2021/22, I dealt with the forgotten activities of non-governmental women’s and lesbian groups in the GDR, in terms of content and aesthetics. This resulted in the 20-part photographic work: "Currents in motion", which in its openness and multidimensionality reflects feminist and lesbian perspectives of the 1980s/90s in the GDR and offers alternative ways of looking at history. The typo Kis Antiqua used for the laser-engravings on the glasplates, was created by the East German type-designer Hildegrad Korger in 1984. It corresponds with the concept to highlight the activities and achievments of women in the GDR, that have hardly found their way into the historical narratives of the Cold War, but also into women’s history in the context of Germany as a whole.
Kis Antiqua was designed in 1984 by typographer Hildegard Korger and released by "VEB Typoart". This typeface is a formal interpretation based on historical matrices known to have their roots in the work of the Hungarian Miklós Misztótfalusi Kis in the 16th century. Hildegard Korger (born 1935 in Reichenberg, now: Liberec; died 2018 in Hildburghausen) studied from 1956 to 1959 in Heiligendamm and then until 1963 at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (now: Academy of Fine Arts) in Leipzig. She taught there from 1979 and was appointed Professor of Typeface Design in 1992. From 1976 until 1984 she was typo graphic advisor to the Chief Architect's office at Leipzig City Council and served on committees responsible for monument preservation and art in architecture.
The typedesign for this work was created in collaboration with Reymund Schröder.
