"Across the Ravaged Land" is the third and last group of works in a photographic trilogy on which Nick Brandt has been working since 2001. In this trilogy, the artist documents the progressive disappearance of the animal world in East Africa. Together with the titles of the first two groups of works, "On This Earth" and "A Shadow Falls", "Across the Ravaged Land" forms the title of the now completed trilogy: "On This Earth, a Shadow Falls Across the Ravaged Land".
"Across the Ravaged Land" presents a gloomy picture of the world that Nick Brandt has photographed over the past 12 years: a world that still exists in beguiling beauty, but which is tragically threatened by the irresponsible actions of mankind, becoming ever smaller and threatening to disappear.
